SPiCE Goa 2020 unveils agenda, opens nomination for gaming awards

Gaming focused events company, Eventus International has announced further details of the third edition of the Strategic Platform for iGaming Conference and Exhibition (SPiCE) at the Goa Marriott resort and spa from 25th-27th March, 2020.

The first day of SPICE Goa 2020 is focused on affiliate marketing and will have themes such as promoting gaming websites through digital means, affiliate marketing frauds and identifying credible affiliate marketing platforms, legal issues arising out of affiliate marketing etc. The day is expected to end with a SP”iCE” breaker pre-event party

The second day of the three day event (26th March) will focus on themes such as digital sports gaming and its growth in India, fantasy sports, legal and regulatory updates etc.

In the evening of the second day, a US$150 SPiCE poker tournament will be hosted for the participants of SPiCE on board an offshore casino in Goa.

The third day of the event will start with updates and discussion on the South Asian casino industry. The other themes of the day will focus on tax issues, payment processing, online poker and rummy industries etc. and a masterclass on structuring real money online skill gaming businesses in India.

At the end of the third day, Eventus has announced a gala award ceremony to recognise some of the leading individuals and organisations involved in the Indian gaming industry.

Leading companies in nine categories as decided by an expert panel of judges will be recognised with an award. The categories for the awards include the following: Skill Gaming Operator of the Year (Non-Fantasy); Poker Operator of the Year; Fantasy Gaming Operator of the Year; Technology Provider of the Year; Affiliate Platform of the Year; Emerging Startup of the Year; Developer of the Year; Legal Adviser of the Year and Best SPiCE Speaker.

AIGF releases new report on benefits of digital gaming

The All India Gaming Federation (AIGF) launched an industry report ‘Online Games: A tool for learning & development’ at a launch event in New Delhi yesterday. The report highlights experts’ opinions on the positives of digital gaming and benefits of better hand-eye coordination, reduction of stress and anxiety, team building, improvement in decision making skills etc.

The industry report contains testimonials on the benefits of esports for learning and development from experts such as Ankur Diwakar-South Asian competitive esports champion; Fatima Agarkar- leading educationist; Dr. Sanju George- mental health expert; Dr. Divya Jain- mental health expert and Dr. Ishita Pateria- Counselling Psychologist.

Launching the report Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament and Olympic Medallist, Mary Kom said, “While the conventional thinking is to categorise all forms of digital gaming as harmful, careful research and analysis indicates that there are many positives that accrue from Digital Sports Gaming. In today’s time, with the growing digital infrastructure, eSports can reach out to an innumerable set of people in different cities who do not have a proper sporting infrastructure and provide them with a platform to showcase their skills.”

She further added, “It is needless to mention that all gamers need to be cautioned against the overuse of online games at the expense of other physical activities.”

The report launch was followed by a panel discussion wherein experts like Fatima Agarkar (Leading Educationist & Founder – KA Edu Associates), Ishita Pateria (Counselling Psychologist & Founder – State of Mind) Lokmanyu Chaturvedi (Pro Gamer),  and Dibyojyoti Mainak (General Counsel, Mobile Premier League) gave insights on advantages of digital sport games, gaming methodologies used in teaching,  enhancement of life skills, mental aptitude, lowers stress, better hand – eye coordination, critical thinking and  psyschosocial skills through gaming etc.

Expressing his views, the moderator of the panel discussion, AIGF CEO Roland Landers said, “The proliferation of digital infrastructure, high-speed internet and growing technology have led to a tremendous growth in the online gaming industry. There are an estimated 300 million mobile gamers in India. The number of digital gaming companies has also seen a rapid rise. In digital sports gaming players like Mobile Premier League (MPL) and First Games from the Paytm stable taking the lead in driving growth in this sector.”

India Game Developers Conference to be held in Hyderabad on 22-23 November

The 11th edition of the India Game Developers Conference (IGDC), supported by the Government of Telangana and tech industry body NASSCOM is scheduled to be held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre in Telangana on 22nd and 23rd November, 2019.

The flagship event is expected to showcase the latest developments in the game industry of the Indian subcontinent and debate new trends.

The two-day event, beginning on November 22, will also discuss the inventiveness in the functions and contents in the digital entertainment industry in India.

The organisers stated the IGDC continued to attract big attention from global gaming studios, developers and gaming enterprises.

IGDC will host more than 3,000 industry professionals and 200 industry expert speakers, major tracks and will feature 10 major events, 200 expo stalls, 25 publishers and 25 investors. It will also host an exhibit for games companies across India, including their popular IGDC Awards ceremony in seven categories.

“The industry is maturing and we believe IGDC continues to be the must-attend conference to catch the latest trends, market intelligence, success stories, upskill with great talks and workshops, meet investors and of course everyone in the Indian gaming ecosystem will be there, presenting excellent networking opportunities,” said Rajesh Rao, Chairperson, India Game Developer Conference and Founder and former CEO of Dhruva Interactive.

The congregation will build, consolidate and further game advancements, smart entertainment software and hardware animation, comic, internet e-Sports, new-age entertainment and other digital entertainment in India, and establish itself as a trend indicator for the gaming ecosystem and digital entertainment industry in India.

Among the big takeaways for the participants this year will be Android, Augmented Reality, iOS, PC, Steam, Virtual Reality, and Windows gaming and development and new trends.

According to a KPMG report, esports and gaming are expected to add revenues of over $1 billion by 2021, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22 per cent.

Locally developed games picked up big numbers of daily active users. Designing and exporting games too hold a great promise with an estimated annual global market of $1.7 billion within a few years, the organisers said in a press release.

FICCI & AIGF organise knowledge session on integrity in sports

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the All India Gaming Federation (AIGF) jointly hosted a knowledge session for government officials, sports federation office-bearers and the media on ‘Integrity in sports and the need for regulating sports betting’ in New Delhi on 24th July.

The event saw guests like senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Dr. Shashi Tharoor, former Law Commission of India Chairman Dr. Balbir Singh Chauhan, Rajya Sabha MP KTS Tulsi and former footballer Bhaichung Bhutia discuss the benefits of a regulatory framework for the online gaming industry and the pitfalls of not having a law to penalise sporting fraud.

Welcoming the gathering and setting the tone for the evening Siddharth Upadhyay, Co-Chair, FICCI Sports committee said, “FICCI has been a torchbearer in the field of sports development & propagating the idea of sports as an industry. We are thrilled to organize an event of this stature, wherein experts have gathered to talk about the importance of regularizing the gaming and sports industry.”

David Foster, Head of Regulatory Affairs of leading global online gaming giant GVC Holdings, while addressing the audience via video conference highlighted the importance of integrity in sports and stated, “Positive conduct by athletes, administrators, officials, supporters and other stakeholders, on and off the sporting arena is extremely important. This enhances the reputation and standing of the sporting contest and of sports overall.”

Dr. Shashi Tharoor in his address to the gathering said, “Long-term prognosis for sports and betting is bleak if corruption is not dealt with. While self-regulatory practices need to be followed by the industry, there is an urgent need to have a statutory framework with government oversight to ensure service providers are following license conditions to track suspicious betting patterns and to have some control over the money flow to curb the generation of black money.”

Tharoor added that while the private member’s bill introduced by him, namely the Sports (Online Gaming & Prevention of Fraud) Bill, 2018 has lapsed due to the dissolution of the previous Lok Sabha, he would be meeting Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Kiren Rijiju and present him a copy of the Private Member’s Bill drafted by him, with the request that the government bring out a Bill of its own on the issue and address the menace of sports fraud and urgent need for regulation of sports betting.

KTS Tulsi agreed with Tharoor and added that he would also raise the issue in the Rajya Sabha and introduce a private member’s Bill similar to Tharoor’s.

The event also saw Amar Gahlot, Advocate – Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan attorneys and former IRS officer present a white paper highlighting the ‘Economic Impact of Regulation on Gambling and Betting’.

Summing up the event, AIGF CEO Roland Landers noted, “With the proliferation of sports leagues and the development of the sports ecosystem in India, it has become a major source of commerce and revenue for many entities, especially in the field of betting or gaming in connection with sporting events. Though each Indian state have their own Gaming Acts, what is ideally required is a central regulation.”

AGB announces Mekong Gaming Summit in Cambodia from 10-12 September

Leading online gaming news portal Asia Gaming Brief (AGB) has announced that the ‘Mekong Gaming Summit’ will be held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on 10th and 11th September, 2019 to discuss investment and marketing opportunities for land-based and online gaming in South-East Asian jurisdictions such as Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar.

The conference is due to take place at the Sofitel in Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia from 10th-11th September and is being supported by the Cambodian Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF), one of the agencies responsible for gaming regulation, along with the Ministry of the Interior.

AGB has announced that the the Ministry of Economy and Finance Secretary of State in the Government of Cambodia, Nguon Sokha, will be delivering the opening address while Mey Vann, director general of MOEF will also be speaking at the event.

Other highlights of the event include a special gala cocktail reception hosted by the capital’s premier casino and entertainment resort – NagaWorld – on the evening of 10th September. Delegates will also be able to meet companies able to assist in setting up their businesses in the region at a table-top exhibition space in the Sofitel Grand Ballroom foyer.

Immediately following the conference, on 12th September, there will be an optional tour to the Sihanoukville town of Cambodia, which has emerged as one of the biggest gaming hubs of the South-East Asian region.

Eventus International announces third edition of SPiCE from 25-27 March 2020

After the successful culmination of the second edition of the Strategic Partnership for iGaming Conference & Exhibition (SPiCE) in Goa in February this year, Hong Kong-based events specialist, Eventus International has announced that the third edition of SPiCE will be held from 25th-27th March, 2020 at the Goa Marriott Resort & Spa at Miramar near Panaji.

IndiaBet, one of the largest affiliate sites in India, has signed an agreement as strategic partner to support content creation and drive traffic in order to gather all the Indian affiliates under the same roof, creating major opportunities for operators to crack valuable deals on Day One (25 March).

The agenda will focus on networking and meetings amongst operators and key affiliates, digital marketing channels for local and international gaming operators, and trends in affiliate marketing.

Eventus has announced a SP”iCE” BREAKER drinks and registration pre-event on the evening of Day One (25 March) to welcome all delegates, sponsors, exhibitors and speakers.

IAMAI hosts GATO 2.0 conference and awards; MPL bags Emerging Indian Gaming Company award

The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) hosted a day long Gaming for Tomorrow (GATO 2.0) conference and awards ceremony at the Leela Ambience hotel in Gurugram on 24th April, 2019.

The daylong conference had discussions around various facets of digital gaming in India. Industry experts brainstormed on the potential of various online games and will chart a roadmap for its future growth. The conference also hosted special workshops for developers by AISPL (Amazon Internet Services Private Limited) and Amazon Alexa.

Digbijoy Shukla, Head-Startup Ecosystem, AISPL in his keynote address stated that the gaming industry in India can become a billion dollar market by 2020 as the number of mobile users are expected to reach 700 million.

The summit speaker’s line-up includes several industry experts like Haja Sheriff Lead – Business Development for Alexa Skills, Amazon India; Abhishek Shah, CEO, Conversion X , Pariekshit Maadishetti, Managing Director, Grid Logic Group;  Akshat  Rathee, MD, Nodwin Gaming; Rajan Navani, Vice Chairman & MD, JetSynthesys; Sundar Raman, CEO – Sports, Reliance Industries among others and had discussions around topics like Design in gaming: Need and importance?; The rise of AI and AR/VR induced gaming; Mainstreaming Esports in India; The aesthetics of marketing a game in India; Responsible Gaming: Player Protection and Safety etc.

At the event of the conference, IAMAI unveiled the inaugural GATO awards where Indian gaming developers and companies were honoured for their excellence under eight categories. Popular mobile gaming company Mobile Premier League (MPL) bagged the award for Emerging Indian Gaming Company while Grid Logic Games (Taj Rummy) got the runner up award in the same category.

IAMAI announces agenda and speaker line-up for GATO 2.0

Premier industry body Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) is set to host the second edition of the Gaming for Tomorrow Conference (GATO) on 24th April, 2019 at The Leela Ambience, Gurugram and has released the agenda and schedule for the event.

According to the organisers, the day long conference will have discussions around the various facets of digital gaming in India. Industry experts will brainstorm on the potential of various online games and will chart a roadmap for its future growth.  The conference will also host special workshops for developers by AISPL and Amazon Alexa. SiGMA successfully hosts gaming roadshow in Manila

SiGMA, a Malta-based affiliate and gaming events company hosted its first ever event in Manila, Philippines from 21st-22nd March, 2019. The event was the first leg of its global networking tour with subsequent events being planned in New Jersey, Nairobi and Lima later this year.

Hosted at the Shangri-La at the Fort hotel in Manila, the two-day event hosted conferences and presented a plethora of new opportunities for handshake deals in the fast-growing Asian market. The company in a press released noted that the event had opened doors to favourable business circumstances for European operators and suppliers looking to tap into the Asian market.

The event saw participation by over 400 premium Asian affiliates and operators that included FavBet, Hero Gaming, Glitnor Affiliates, Posh Friends, Royal Panda and Scout Gaming.

IAMAI announces GATO gaming awards, nominations now open

Premier industry body Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has announced the inaugural edition of GATO awards that will be presented at the second edition of the’Gaming for Tomorrow’ (GATO 2.0) conference which is scheduled to be held on 24th April, 2019 at The Leela Ambience in Gurugram.

IAMAI has announced that it would be handing out awards to eight categories of top performing Indian gaming companies as given below:

  • Best Gaming App
  • Best Live Game
  • Best Fantasy Game App
  • Best Card Game on an App
  • Best use of AR/VR in a Game
  • Emerging Indian Gaming Company
  • Best Affiliate Partner for Gaming
  • Best Mobile Ad Network for Gaming

Further, the mobile association is accepting nominations for games which were active in the Indian markets anytime between 1st April 2017 to 31st March, 2019.  The last date for submitting nominations for entries is 28th March, 2019. Entries can be submitted through the GATO event webpage by paying an entry fee of Rs. 1,180/- and filling out the nomination form.

Besides the award ceremony, the day-long GATO 2.0 event is scheduled to have several panel discussions and presentations on various topics concerning the gaming industry including games of skill, social and casual gaming, gaming technology and esports.

The first edition of Gaming for Tomorrow was held in December 2017 and saw participation from top executives of various gaming companies such as Adda52, Taj Rummy, Winzo Games, Ace2Three and VCommission, among others.
